A hunter (that is, a person passionate about the hunting experience) cannot be deceived by cheap consumer goods, which will turn into rags the first time he goes out on business.

So you have to confront the forces of nature, testing your willpower, and at the same time the quality of your equipment…

To the question posed as a title, the answer will be definite – “Yes”. High-quality hunter’s clothing that suits the terrain and climate is an essential factor that influences the success of your “safari outing.” So say the professionals who have spent decades pursuing “legal” animals.

Are hunting clothes as important as guns and other equipment? Absolutely right – you will hear the answer from those who lie in ambush for days on end, looking for some handsome animal from the ungulate family, who chase a hare, wolf or fox with a dog, who look out for a wild boar on a tower or waterfowl in the lakeside reeds. In the ancient men’s fun that we are talking about here, clothing plays a role. A hunter must be equipped with more than just weapons.  

How not to scare away forest game?

Costume

First of all, the specialists make it clear that the hunter’s clothing should not contain any attributes that sparkle in the sun – buttons, plaques, badges, badges, jewelry (including on the fingers). The animal reacts to the slightest glare, sensing danger. This applies not only to the forest, but to all places.

Hunting clothing for fishing in the thicket is a robe of the “summer forest” category – green, brown, yellow ocher tones, sometimes with black. This way you will “turn” into trees and grass for birds and ground inhabitants of groves and taiga. Now about the head. In the summer, she should wear a hat with a net that protects forest guests from midges and mosquitoes. And they will test your endurance in an ambush! It should be emphasized that the fabric should not rustle – come to buy equipment not at Chinese stores, but at specialized hunting stores (trade departments).

The hunting shoes who sneaks into the thicket in the summer are boots like very light ankle boots (it’s easy to walk and protects the entire shin from sharp branches and ticks!). In spring and autumn, the same high boots with rubberized bottoms are suitable. In winter, these are warm boots with fur inside (in the northern regions, only felt boots will save a fisherman from frostbite).

Hunting boots for dense green bushes are made in the same shade as a camouflage suit. To avoid repetition, this applies to any landscape.

Disguise

The hunter’s camouflage in the forest is “reincarnation” in brown-green “patterns”. This applies to the face (in specialized stores there is paint that is safe for the skin). And you can throw a weave of special camouflage ribbons over your entire body. They are sold both separately and in stitched form, reminiscent of the appearance of a fairy-tale goblin. For greater persuasiveness, you can hang branches with leaves on yourself, tying them with rope.

How to attract swamp-meadow inhabitants?

Costume

Hunting clothing for spring and autumn shores of reservoirs (lakes, swamps and fields) is uniform made of cotton fabrics in yellow-brown camouflage colors, with a variety of insulation, water-repellent upper impregnation and, of course, membrane insertion (such as Gore-Tech). These are very good, but expensive clothes.

Hunting shoes

The shoes of a hunter standing in a coastal ambush should, of course, be rubber. These are very high boots; in some cases, fishing boots-overalls are also suitable (the product resembles a jumpsuit, which completely turns into shoes).

Such hunting shoes already imply entering a body of water – and to varying depths. Occasionally, such an equipment miracle is sold immediately with “camouflage”. And in order not to overcool your feet, wear thermal underwear – rubber increases the cold of autumn water.

Disguise

In swamp-lake areas, hunting camouflage should be of a special type – “reed”. This applies to both the pattern on the camouflage suit and the cape made from ribbons of the same tones. This refers to combinations of withered yellow, dark and medium brown.

Again, a hunter’s purchased camouflage (a heap of ribbons) can be replaced with a man-made product made from cattails and reeds. Threads and ropes will help you! If you don’t make any noise, the duck will take you (your smell) for a piece of his native serene landscape…

What to wear to the fields?

Costume – hunting jacket and pants

The clothes of a hunter who has not missed the wild goose shooting season completely replicate the colors and patterns of the “swamp” hunter, with the only difference being that rubber is not needed. A good hunting suit for field trips is more reminiscent of the summer uniform of a military expeditionary force. Fabric – cotton. Cape made of water-repellent fabric. Headgear – definitely a hat (the sun is hot on the open plain), but again – made of water-repellent material (geese hunting season is, in fact, the rainy season).

Shoes

What are field hunter’s shoes? Light boots or sneakers are perfect here. Preferably tourist ones, but not mountain trekking ones (without special soles; in the lowlands they will only aggravate your progress)!

Disguise

Hunting camouflage in the fields is almost the main aspect of your luck. After all, there is no vegetation here. Make a ghost costume from the nearest bush. Or use the same ribbon cape whose shade was described in the previous section.

The camouflage of a goose hunter and small field game has a main feature – it should be as light as possible. The goose has difficulty distinguishing objects against the sun (they are dark), and therefore is simply afraid of any dark spots.

How to “become one of us” among mountain animals?

The first breathes, and the second has increased heat-saving properties. The temperature at different slope strata changes quickly.

In addition, a cloud will sometimes bring not only coolness, but also terrible frost in the middle of a hot summer! As for the deep gorges, it is always chilly there.

The tricks of clothing for a hunter who has chosen his fate in the mountains should also apply to his headdress.

If on the plain you need to escape from the sun, in the forest from mosquitoes and midges,

and near the water from all this, and even excess moisture, then in the mountains you should be afraid of one enemy.

The cold that awaits above the level of 2500 meters (even if below – in the valleys – plus 40°C heat).

A knitted wool hat is best, and in winter – a fur earflap.

It also wouldn’t hurt to take a canvas or bolognese hood, or better yet, a raincoat,

which has replaced the shepherd’s cloak for modern hunters.

Rain is not uncommon here at any time of the year.

As for the eyes, they should be wearing sunglasses. Be aware: ultraviolet radiation at altitudes is merciless.

Hunting shoes

Alpine hunting shoes are not boots, not summer boots or felt boots. These are special sneakers with metal spikes that reliably support the ankle. As a rule, they are completely closed and more like the belongings of a mountain tracker. Surveillance and pursuit will take place quickly and on an inclined surface. Therefore, in the area of ​​the shin and heel, the material must be very rigid so as not to dislocate the leg. The sock should also end with something dense (there are sharp rocks around!). Well, everything is clear with spikes – without them you simply will not rise above the forest “floor”. The ascent angle becomes very steep. Possible slipping. Also beware of frozen toes – take not only regular socks, but also knee socks.

Disguise

There are moments in mountain shooting that are no less important for the hunter’s clothing. As a trick, modern hunters living in mountainous areas put on a “clump” that is used in the steppes (namely in the steppes, and not in the wild goose fields). This hunting camouflage is based on the use of very faded yellow-gray shades, imitating both sparse vegetation and the color of rocky slopes (they are found in the mountains above the level of coniferous forest). It makes sense to apply this color scheme to the face as well. And sheep fur plays the role of camouflage to attract a wolf or fox.

As a postscript, let’s say that the tricks of a hunter’s clothing can also be related to smell. Many professionals specially impregnate their fishing clothes with the aromas of the forest, and specifically with such “perfumes” as swamp algae (mud), game animal urine, salt (only lures elk), etc. So experiment – and you won’t go wrong. After all, each option needs to be checked personally. Another. From the end of November to February (and in some places March), the “outfit” on any landscape north of the subtropics should belong to the “winter forest” class. The reason, we are sure, does not need to be explained. Be like a yeti – blend in with the snow…
